The 1997 Class set of the Oriwu College Old Students Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN), has perfected plans to hold a candle procession in honour of their late colleague, late Dr. Richard Adekola Idowu, popularly called, ‘Ade Ori Okin’.

Dr. Richard, who was the founder of RAI Global Foundation, was until his death, an associate professor of Mathematics and Statistics at the Prairie View A & M University, Houston Texas, USA.

The 45 years young scholar was shot and killed at Ejigbo, during the 50th coronation anniversary of the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode Oyesosin, by a local hunter who was said to have also been killed immediately.

His remains will be interred at his residence in Igbe Laara, Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu, Lagos on Friday, March 1, 2024.

As a mark of last respect to their departed mate, members of the Class of 1997 set of the premier college in Ikorodu Division, will, on Thursday, February 29, embark on a candle light procession to honour his departed soul and usher him into the after life.

Mr Olatunji Shakioye, Chairman, OCOSAN 1997 set, speaking on the planned procession, said that members of the set are deeply touched by the untimely and unexpected death of Dr. Richard Idowu whom he described as a shining light and consistent supporter of the set.

The procession will kick – off from the Oriwu College, Ikorodu, at 4.00pm.

He said that the procession is the least that they can do to honour his memory and let his family, Oriwu College community and the entire globe know that he was loved for his good deeds, supportive dispositions and kindness.

“We loved, cherished and wanted him with us for life, but God loves him most. We are helpless and saddened by his departure”, he concluded with pains in his heart for the loss of his friend.

Meanwhile, the national body of OCOSAN has also commiserated with the Class of 1997, on the loss of one of its members.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary (OCOSAN), Mr Sholanke Lateef (Arizona), the national body, which has thrown its weight behind the planned procession, urged members of other Class sets to join the procession to give late Dr Richard Idowu last respect.

“There will be provision of security personnel, free T-Shirts, water, glucose and logistics to be used for the procession”, the former student of Oriwu College Ikorodu assured.

Late Dr Richard Idowu is survived by his wife, children and aged parents, Engr. and Mrs Ademola Idowu who are from Alabi Laisu compound of Ejigbo in Osun State.
